written 2011 Piano+Electronics is a semi-improvisatory composition in which the pianist performs while interacting with a score presented on a computer screen. The score is made mostly of 1-5 beat segments that the performer loops while varying rhythmically. The score follows along with the performer by detecting and cycling through events applied to each attack. Pre-composed synthetic and sampled sounds are triggered each time the performer plays a note. After the performer has looped each segment the appropriate number of times he advances the score and electronics with a foot pedal. Here is a video demonstrating the patch. For the purposes of demonstration, the attacks are triggered by tapping on a microphone instead of playing a piano. |
